Tom & Jerry's Airboat Rides Is Now an Approved Splash! Field Studies Program
Big News for Florida Teachers and Schools
We’re excited to share that Tom & Jerry’s Airboat Rides is now an approved field studies program for the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Splash! school grant program!
Through the Splash! grant program, eligible schools may receive funding to help provide students with hands-on educational experiences focused on Florida’s water resources and environment — and now, a field trip to Tom & Jerry’s can be part of that experience.
Turn Lake Panasoffkee Into an Outdoor Classroom
Our educational field trips take learning beyond the classroom and onto the water.
Students experience Lake Panasoffkee aboard a guided airboat tour while learning about the freshwater ecosystem surrounding them. Our program connects the sights and wildlife students encounter with educational topics including:
- Florida’s springs, aquifer and water cycle
- Native plants and wildlife
- Invasive species
- Water quality
- Conservation and protection of Florida’s natural resources
After the airboat portion of the field study, students can continue exploring around the property with educational activities and animal exhibits at our Florida Wildlife Educational Center.
Our goal is to give students the opportunity to see, experience and connect with the Florida environment they’re learning about in school.
Splash! Grant Funding for Eligible Schools
The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Splash! school grant program provides eligible teachers with funding for water-resource education projects and field studies.
Schools in Citrus, Hernando, Levy, Marion and Sumter counties may be eligible to apply for Splash! funding.
Because Tom & Jerry’s Airboat Rides is now an approved field studies program, teachers can include our educational field trip experience as part of their Splash! grant application.
Designed With School Groups in Mind
Our school field trip program is designed to make planning easier for teachers while creating a memorable experience for students. Field trips can include:
- A guided one-hour airboat experience
- Educational activities and exhibits
- Use of our pavilion
- Opportunities to explore Florida wildlife and freshwater ecology firsthand
We can also work with schools to accommodate larger groups by rotating students through activities and airboat departures.
